Flag steps

what are your thoughts about this teacher being punished. Does the punishment match the offense?

  1. In my opinion, he shouldn't have stepped on the flag simply because at this point in the country, death threats over stupid stuff like this is beyond likely. He's a teacher and he needs to uphold himself to a higher standard than that. He can impact hundreds of lives and it's completely understandable with the way the nations heading; however he needs to be the better person. Pride in America is dwindling, but you don't need to let everyone and their mom know that you hate it.

  2. I believe his actions to teach his students a lesson about free speech was well intended, but I do not believe in the unjust treatment of the flag.

  3. at the end of the day its just a flag. and he didn't say anything about hating america.

  4. It wasn't right to step on the flag but he wanted to make a point about freedom of speech. I don't believe that sending him death threats is right. Especially, his consequences. His punishment definitely doesn't match up with his actions.

  5. I believe that he did that to show his students that america is not going in the right direction it needs to be going. I don't believe he intended on trying to down talk the people in the army he simply just wanted to get his point across. He is another person who knows that the country we live in is cruel and he is risking his job and life for standing up for what is right for this country.

  6. The whole situation was blown out of proportion. If /I were in the class at the time of this incident, it wouldn't have phased me, simply because people have the right to do what they want to do. Firing him would be going to the extreme, instead they could suspend him from work for a little while.

  9. the teacher shouldn't be investigated, they are taking it farther then what it was. The two students that stormed out really make me laugh... he teaches at a high school and the students are so baby that they run out of a class room just cause some guy is stepping on a flag, like really dude? at least he on paid leave . mbn

  10. The teacher did it to prove a point about freedom of speech. He doesn't hate America, hes from an army family

  11. They should've just let him do him to be honest

  12. my opinion is that i think that he shouldn't have done that in front of his class of students. that was very inappropriate and he should've known that it was gong to cause an uproar. the consequences he got due to his actions were a little extreme but once again he should've thought before he went and disrespected the country.

  13. the opinion i have on this is that he shouldn't step on a flag that people give their lives to protect the people of america. He really should of said something like speak what you think is right but don't dishonor anyone. the death threats really is to fair because even though he stepped on the flag people should just try to make him apologize and maybe resign from teaching.

  16. he shouldnt have did that but death threats not that serious for this situation

  17. He has is own opinion, but the fact that he did that in front of american students is crazy.

  18. The civics teacher from Massey Hill Classical High School in Fayetteville, N.C., was giving a lesson last week about the Bill of Rights that touched on Texas v. Johnson, the Supreme Court case upholding the constitutional right to burn the American flag.

  20. I think that he shouldnt have used that example. He could have used another example now he got people wanting to go kill him for no reason.

  21. I feel that death threats are a little too serious of a consequence for stepping on a flag. He did it to prove a point, not to show hatred of America.

  23. I feel that he could have used an different type of way to get his point away. I understand he was trying to prove is point but he went to far with. Now sum of the threats are to serious and some are not.

  24. I think that his action are still "okay". He disrespected a countries flag, but not the country itself. Everybody has a different opinion on that, but I think that he just wanted to "demonstrate" what happened hundreds of years ago.

  25. I feel that the teacher just spoke his mind. However, many people will take offence to his actions, but you don't have to have an investigation on it.

  26. i believe that the teacher is right he has that right as an american citizen to show his opinion and all it was an example of his lesson don't know why anyone would take offense he has the right to do as he pleases as long as it doesn't hurt someone emotionally doesn't really matter because he wont scar kids by stepping on a flag.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think the teacher's actions are okay because everybody is entitled to their own opinion. He should not be punished at all for this.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The punishment does not match the offense. The teacher was doing his job, and decided to demonstrate what he was teaching to his students. I don't think there should be an investigation because he's not a threat to the country's safety.

  29. I believe that he has his own opinion, and can do what he wants, but stepping on the flag in front of children, is very disrespectful not only to those children, but the school, the people who serve in our country, and the flag itself. Now, the death threats, in my opinion it's not even that deep because at then end of the day he's still going to do what he wants.

  30. I feel the death threats weren't necessary. He shouldn't be punished for his actions either.. He was simply demonstrating for the class. He also asked for a light (even though he wasn't really gonna light in the class), he did the protocol so I don't understand the problem.

  32. Yes the punishment matches and he should have been smart enough to not do some thing that stupid in front of a bunch of kids... smh.

  33. I don't think he should have stepped on it I think he was just trying to get his point across about America I don't think he meant to harm anyone

  37. i think he dosent deserve the death threat for something as dumb as stomping on a flag. we live in a country of "free speech" so people are always entitled to their opinion. but when it comes to threats, thats not an opinion, its a statement on further actions. which is not okay no matter what he did ...

  43. I feel like they shouldn't give him questionable death. At least he didn't burn the flag him stepping on it could only resemble his dislike towards the current state of the U.S. and a search warrant should't be conducted

  45. In my opinion he does not deserve the death threat or anything of that sort.I also do not think he should have stepped on the flag aslo but it is a free country he can do what ever he wants

  47. I believe that its immature act of threats occurring but not to disrespect the country as a while but the freedom of speech. I think it was a courageous act that he should had put my thought into the fact what the outcome could be from the act for which he portrayed.

  48. This country is so ridiculous and childish. All this man did was step on a flag. He was exercising his right and now this man is being investigated for doing so? What's the point of giving somebody the right to do something and then arrest them for doing what you said they could just because it made some little white boy sad. He needs to man up, he is in high school. He should know that by now there are gonna be things that are going to offend people and he's just gonna have to deal with them, especially with something so minor like that.

  52. I think this was blown out of proportion. Everyone has their OWN OPINION. If the country allowed freedom of speech like they say the do, he would not be punished for his actions. This country is dumb.

I was not here yesterday, this is not a late blog.

  54. It's not that serious he was just trying to make a point. The public school system is so unfair to teachers, they aren't allowed to teach or show their students how they see their points without stupid stuff, getting death threats, happening.

  56. I feel like he has the right to. It's not like he personally violated anyone. It wasn't a public disruption or anything. That's how he feels. He didn't hurt anyone physically. There should be no investigation.

  58. He has the right to feel whatever way that he wants to, so i commend him for standing up for what he feel is right. But he has to think that not everyone feels the same way that he does so stepping on the flag wasn't the best idea because he dosent know how others may feel about it. I feel as if the punishment matches the offence, its not like he just not getting paid.

  59. Lee Francis had the right to do what he did, because of freedom of speech, how ironic. He was just trying to make a point and some people took it further than what it really was. I think him getting paid leave was the best decision because of the death threats and investigation going on.

  61. Does it really matter? It just a flag. The parents are over-exaggerated and the students that post it on social media is childish. He can do whatever he want since it doesn't concern me, but it still a bit disrespectful to on the US flag.
