House of Cards and Orange is the New Black helped jump start Netflix's popularity. Netflix doesn't really need those shows to continue anymore. They have thousands of more shows and movies to fill the gap.
What Netflix did was geniuses with making their own original TV shows and movies. Because of Netflix originals it change the Television game. Now people don't even need a provider because Netflix shows are better than the normal TV provider.
I believe Netflix was attempting to fill the void it had missing. By adding new shows consistently it gives the viewers an good amount of new shows to watch. With all the new shows coming in its harder to feel like there's nothing to watch that you'd like. This fixes the problem of viewers feeling like they should find another way to watch TV and binge watch shows.
I think Netflix is pretty big with their variety of shows for all types of audiences. Netflix should end some long term shows because sometimes people will get bored of it. Not only that but they can create more shows that is fresh and is something people might consider watching.
Based on this article, I agree with the decision to stop filming "Orange is the New Black" and "House of Cards". These shows are both very popular, from what I've heard. The fact that these shows lasted this long is an accomplishment, so Netflix is not taking a loss by ending these shows' production.
