  2. I feel as if it is this nike thing thats going on . Her coach has probably did this for a long time why do they call her out now and say she cheating . Now she has to pay that 17,000 for something so small . Her coach even said that she was not looking at him so there for she should not have to pay . The chairman did not have too say she was cheating he could of just gave her a warning and this would never had to happen .

  3. I believe that Serena Williams was wrong. But it would've not been as bad if if people were just not justified.

  4. In my opinion I believe that Serena wasn't wrong. It was unnecessary of her though to argue with the chair umpire. She mentioned that "She never cheated and would rather lose" which is believable because of all her achievements she earned in her tennis career. Also being charged for $17,000 is blaspheme. All in all this situation was unnecessary and uncalled for.

  5. I think that serena williams was not wrong. She is one of the greatest tennis players ever and for an umpire who disrespected her by not giving her point and that game is upsetting. I feel like it has something to do with whats she doing in the community. No one has ever seen or heard of serena cheating. So for her to pay $17,000 for this is way upsetting but she got the money so.

  6. I do not think Serena Williams was wrong for her actions. I think the umpire should have been fined because Williams has proven throughout her entire career that she does not need to cheat. Smashing the racket on the ground, yelling at the umpire, and demanding an apology are all actions that are justifiable under the accusation of cheating to win a match against a younger opponent.

  7. I feel as if Serena Williams was ok for standing up for herself but she took about it the wrong way. She didn't have to shout at him and act the way she did. Throwing and breaking her racket and having a fit was not the way to go about the confrontation either. Her coach didn't make it any better, in fact, he pretty much provoked her into making the situation worse. Instead he should've told her to talk to the chair umpire calmly but still firmly.

  8. No because she has a opinion and wants to express it.I hope they give the money to charity or something positive.

  9. In my opinion I believe that Serena wasn't wrong, she has a right to stand up for herself . She mentioned that she never cheated and would rather lose, which is believable because of all of her achievements in her career. All in all, it is okay to stand up for yourself especially if you are being wrongfully accused.

  10. I don't think that Serena handled the situation in the most appropriate way, but I do understand her frustrations. When you spend all year training for something you're passionate about just to be called a cheater in the end, it can cause a strong reaction.

  12. I think that Serena Williams was right to stand up for herself. She has proven that she doesn't need to cheat since she is one of the best. Although she didn't need to smash the racket. The umpire could of just given a warning. Now she has to pay $17,000 but for her it's probably not that much.

  13. I do not think that Serena was wrong for standing up for herself it is just how she handled the situation that was wrong. If she would of handle the situation differently she would have accomplished more and probably gotten the apology she deserved.

  14. I believe Serena was not in the wrong. Everybody knows how heated you can get when you playing your sport and you feel like you’re being cheated out of your win. She also has freedom of speech so she should be allowed to express herself. People are blowing it out of proportion.

  15. Serena I believe did overreact a little bit but the tennis official did wrong her of saying she is cheating and did saying things that weren’t appropriate at that moment. She is a athlete in the middle of a match and him saying things to distract or upset her or uncalled for which he should be suspended for that .

  16. I don't think she was wrong because they claimed she cheated but she know she didn't. but she should of handled the situation in a different way so now they fined her 17k.

  17. I believe she was cheated and wasn't in the wrong because you can handle the situation way better than that. They could have had a way more intriguing and proffesional conversation as opposed to hitting her with a 17k fine.

  18. She didn't do anything wrong she was only expressing how she felt and showing that what was happening was wrong and her passion for the sport was react the way she did because she played so long and never cheated but to be accused of it really upset her but it wasn't fair to her to express her thoughts and get disrespected like that it was not right

  19. In my opinion, I believe ahe wasn't wrong because they "claimed" she's cheating the match but that wasn't true.

  20. In my onion Serena was not in the wrong because she truly did not know what her coach did and the umpire was probably being sexist

  21. I believe Serena was in the wrong. The coach was cheating, and it's no surprise they would associate her with that. There's absolutely no excuse for her meltdown regardless, especially considering she was already losing the entire match. Her race and sex were completely irrelevant to the situation and her bringing them up was in no was professional and incredibly stupid. Also, she's rich. 17,000 dollars is almost nothing to her, that's a slap on the wrist considering there's recorded audio of her threatening the umpire when she thought nobody was recording

  22. I believe Serena Williams was wrong. I can understand the argument about the coaching violation, that decision is questionable. But as soon as Serena made it about gender, that was when everything went wrong. Sure maybe rules are slightly different in men's tennis vs. women's tennis, but all that Umpire was doing was following the rules and guidelines of the sport. The fact that Serena made Umpire's decision is absolutely obsolete. There have been countless times, in various sports, male and female, when a violation has been overlooked. The fact that Serena's coach was caught in the act of a violation makes it impossible to be overlooked. Serena should not have done what she did, She had plenty of chances to correct herself, but she didn't. Instead of pushing her gender bias argument, braking her racket, and calling Umpire a thief, she should have just accepted the initial penalty and kept playing. She brought this loss upon herself, she should not blame it on anyone else.

  23. I believe Serena was wrong because she wasn't in a position to argue with the chair, but the coaching is something I can't speak on.

  24. Serena wasn't wrong at all. If anything her coach was the one that messed up. However, I think she could have handled the situation better.

  25. In my opinion, Serena had the right to be mad, but she should've approached the situation calmly and negotiate with the chair and reasoned with him.

  26. Serena was not in the wrong. She didn't do anything wrong and she claimed the referee was being sexist. In the past when other guys did what Serena did the ref did not disqualify the guys that were doing something wrong.

  27. I believe Serena Williams was in the wrong. Because if she's a great player prove it by continuing to play no matter what. After she dose her best with everything that went on she could fire her coach if she really didn't look.

  30. I believe Serena Williams was never wrong about the situation at hand. She has the right to stand up for herself in every possible way it hurts me too see that people think this wrong. She is the G.O.A.T of tennis for all women and girls all around the World. This so sad that happens every time she competes in the U.S Open each year.Men do it too but they never get penalized for it so I understand where she's coming from.

  31. I believe Serena had the right to feel disqualified and wronged in the past. But she should've approach the situation calmer. There were many videos having a take on this and what the situation was. However I feel like it's one sided between the athlete and the referee.

  32. To my opinion is that Serena is a good tennis player and everything, but she is not wrong what she did cuz she was doing what she told to do and she knows what is right and what is wrong

  34. I feel that Serena just wanted to stain up for what was right for her.She might have took it over a little bit but she was just trying to play her game. Serena took it overboard when she broke her Tennis rack. Her coach was trying to make her cheat but Serena didn't even see him.

  35. In my opinion i think Serena Williams was not in the wrong. The reason why i think this because she is one of the best tennis player there is. Why would she want to risk it all by cheating of all things. That and she was already loosing the match so what the point. Then her coach hands was hidden from the way the camera was position was behind the man hands so she couldn't have saw it. Also the stadium was set with the bleaches on the side of the players so if she was looking at him she would have to turn her head all the way to the right or the left to see her coach. So yes I think Serena Williams was not in the wrong and that she shouldn't be fined with $17,000 just by arguing if she was cheating or not. Even if she did that still would have been to much money.

  36. I feel that Serena wasn't in the wrong. I say this because if she lost the match fair and square then the situation would have went differently. Serena felt that the umpire cheated her out of her point which caused her to get frustrated because it didn't have to come to this. But she could've approached him in a different way and asked him what was his reason.

  37. if I was her I would to get mad but I wouldn't throw my tennis rack down because then people would see I am too fast to react over things and why would I pay some body 17k that's stupid.

Whether she wins or loses she still gone get rewarded and she still gone get paid. Also she was already losing the match so why did she have to cheat at the end. So yes I think Serena Williams was not in the wrong and that her being fined $17,000 just by standing up for herself is just stupid and unethical. Even if she didn't respond in the best way possible, she still had the right to respond to someone who accused her of cheating with no proof.

  45. Serena had a valid reason to act the way she did. The chairman was wrong to do that and to think she will do such a thing. Out of all her years playing tennis and all she has won, he would think she cheated. Serena does not stand for that what she works for is so much to loose it all to cheating. She wouldn't risk it all and cheat.

  46. I personally think she was in the clear, she did overreact just a little bit but the tennis official was wrong her of saying she was cheating when said many times she didn't understand what her coach was talking about.

  47. Freedom of expression has always been controversial in the sports world. Athletes have long debated with officials on calls and points, this is no different. Serena was correct in her statement of double standards and I believe she shouldn't have been fined for her actions.

  48. I don't think she was wrong. She acted the way she did with good reason and shouldn't have been fined. She was just trying to stand up for equal right. Women have always been overlooked and mistreated in athletics so she didn't overreact at all.

  49. I personally do not believe that Serena was wrong for the way she acted. She has to right to stand up for her rights and believe in what she believes to be fair.

  51. What Serena Williams did was exceptional. She had the right to say what she wanted and what she did wasn't cheating and the ref accused her of cheating. They should have done something like a redo instead of straight up accusing someone who has been a star of tennis and has understand the rules of the game to cheat.
