  6. Horace Julian Bond (January 14, 1940 – August 15, 2015) was an American social activist and leader in the Civil Rights Movement, politician, professor, and writer. While a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, during the early 1960s, he helped to establish the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).

    Bond was elected to four terms in the Georgia House of Representatives and later to six terms in the Georgia Senate, having served a combined twenty years in both legislative chambers. From 1998 to 2010, he was chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the first president of the Southern Poverty Law Center.On April 17, 1960, Bond helped co-found the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).[10] He served as the communications director of SNCC from January 1961 to September 1966, when he traveled around Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas to help organize civil rights and voter registration drives. Bond left Morehouse College in 1961 to work on civil rights in the South.[11] From 1960 to 1963, he led student protests against segregation in public facilities and the Jim Crow laws of Georgia

  26. Julian Bond was an African American Civil Rights Movement leader. As a student at Morehouse Bond created and led the Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee. Bond was one of the first African American representatives elected to the Georgia House of Representatives. During the 1968 Presidential election Bond was chosen to run as Vice President for the Democratic Party but declined the offer because of his premature constitutional requirement age. Taking a hiatus from his political career Bond also taught at Harvard, Drexel, and many other prestigious schools. Julian Bond died on August 15th, 2015 at the age of 75.

  47. Julian Bond is a recently deceased Civil Rights Activist who spent the majority of his life fighting for the justice & rights of the oppressed. He went to the prestigious Morehouse College, became a student activist there. From then on he spent a tremendous amount of time in politics, and continued to be a strong activist for the rest of his life.

Inspired to do what he did by other well-known activists who, in his youth, use to stop by his house, and was here where his family became involved in activism when his father was elected as the new (and first African American) president of Lincoln University. This exciting background. After going to Morehouse College, he helped create and establish an organization known as the SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee). He later was elected into the Georgia House of Representatives after the passage of two renowned bills that changed America (The Voting Rights act and the Civil Rights Act) due to his courage to stand up for what`s right.   90. Julian Bond was an American social activist and leader in the Civil Rights Movement. I don't know much about him but he recently died yesterday at the age of 75. Inspired to do what he did by other well-known activists who, in his youth, use to stop by his house, and was here where his family became involved in activism when his father was elected as the new (and first African American) president of Lincoln University.

  98. Julian Bond is an American social activist and leader in the Civil Rights Movement, politician, professor, and writer. While attending Morehouse College, he help establish nthe Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Bond was one of eleven African Americans elected to the Georgia House of Representatives after the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act of 1965 had opened voter registration to blacks. Bond was among eleven House members who refused to vote when the legislature elected segregationist Democrat Maddox as governor of Georgia over the Republican Callaway. Bond became the first president of the Southern Poverty Law Center.
